Fortunately, I've found pretty simple items at the buffets that appeal to me. I would rate it just above drive through fast burger food as edible but most Americans would probably take the drive through. Small area to sit and eat. Even though i'm giving it 2 stars it is one of the only chinese places in bloomington that i'd recommend. They do deliver, but I've always used the carry out. Could be nicer but a good place to grab a quick bite.
All the food tasted like it had been sitting out all day long. Taste perfect, I everything just right not greasy or salty. I could not bring myself to examine the edges closely. They were drenched in oil and tasted old. Being at this restaurant, try good egg rolls, mongolian beef and noodles.
Their employees are rude and food is just horrible. It's a very loving atmosphere. If you look past worldly expectations, you'll appreciate this restaurant. I stood around like a lost, hungry deer for a moment, and finally someone came to take my payment. I kid you not if you go to the Mclean County Health Dept restaurant inspections you will see 9 times out of 11 when Great Wall has an unexpected inspection it fails horribly. Also the customer service was non existent. Lots of can soda selections.
Some options are left off of the buffet and brought freshly cooked to your table upon request. The fried chicken rice was okay the chicken was bland and the egg drop soup was so delicious!!! Not a first date type of place unless you don't mind the relax feel. I'm kind of a picky eater, and I tend to shy away from chinese food. The pot stickers tasted awful! I can't trust that they are responsible enough to care about the customer safety and provide proper sanitation and food temperatures. I will no longer patronize Great Wall!!!!! I highly recommend the honey chicken, green beans, and chow mien. What helps is if they have at least one dish which stands out, like spicy green beans at one place I know.
When we called about it they refused to deliver, blamed it on us and then hung up on us. That's cheaper than China House was, when it was over here on the West Side. They tasted like they were cooked several hours ago and reheated up again. The food is yummy and the atmosphere is homey. I feel that this place really skimps on the quality of food and I don't recommend it at all.
I'm gonna try all combination chow fun next time. They also have a small dining area, but it's just too noisy being that close to a busy kitchen to dine in for me. I hate writing negative reviews but sometimes you have to be honest when it hurts. They just don't cut it anymore. I could hardly tell that the guy taking our order was talking to us because he never once looked at me or acknowledged what I said. I tried this restaurant over a year ago. Chicken and beef kebabs are excellent, though not consistently available not always served and when offered, go fast.
Not only is their selection of food quite limited, they have a sign posted above the buffet stating, that any excessive food waste might result in additional charges. Another tip is if you aren't wild about the egg roll option you can always ask for extra broccoli in your dish instead. The owners and workers are extremely kind and happy, they are the type of people I love to support. I left unsatisfied and before I could even make it to my vehicle, I was hit with an unsettling aftertaste from the samon and puked profusely all over the payment. If you are reading reviews you want something better.
Great Taste used to have the hands down best sesame balls and I was hoping for some of those today. This used to be my go to place for Chinese food but I guess I'm looking for a new one. With China House closed, this is the only buffet on the west side. Some effort has been made to spruce up this tired old buffet since I was last here. Can't stress enough how sweet the man who delivered our meal was--made me want to return! I recommend the mongolian beef, hunan chicken, orange chicken, and the singapore angel hair. Never has a business name lied so blatantly.
Hot 'n' sour were awesome too! The food was ok, but the service was horrid. But for a town this size it is a smaller place but with a large selection for the space they have. Like in many other reviews I agree the quality and service levels have gone drastically down. First, the entry confusion: You pay first, but there was no sign indicating this or anyone to greet me. I will say, they get an A+ for price. Hot 'n' sour were awesome too! I can list things, like the salmon swimming in something which was dry and overcooked, the egg drop soup which was fairly flavorless, the green beans which looked like before cooking I would not have bought them in a supermarket.
